Town Hall Meeting - August 12th

    Dear Parents,

In response to community need, SVUSD is offering a Town Hall focused on Reopening Schools for 2020-21. Superintendent Tanya Krause, and Assistant Superintendent Michelle Stewart will be providing an overview of school schedules, changes in instructional delivery and expectations, and answering questions from the community. Additionally, SVUSD will be sharing a document for the Reopening of Schools on Wednesday morning, August 12th, available on the District’s webpage.

The Town Hall is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2020  5:30-6:30 p.m. via ZOOM webinar:  Zoom Webinar link for 8/12/2020

We encourage the community to submit questions in advance, in order to make the time we have together efficient and organized. Please use this form to submit questions.  Although there will be an opportunity to submit questions during the webinar, we will have prepared talking points in advance.  (Please note, participants who “call in” will not be able to submit questions live.)  All comments and questions will be monitored and collected, and we will follow up with additional resources as needed and update FAQs on the website.  We have created a web page devoted to distance learning.

The Town Hall meeting will be recorded and can be accessed after the meeting is over on the distance learning webpage.

Updated Communication from Superintendent - August 4th

    SVUSD Parent Community,

I have received some feedback and concerns regarding the August letter recently sent out.  Please know that more specific information will be coming out.  This letter was primarily intended for the registration packet and the beginning of August update.  As stated in the letter, "As a reminder, the first student day is Monday, August 24th, and you will be receiving more information as that date draws near. Teachers are returning on August 19 and will engage in professional development and collaboration time in preparation for the start of remote instruction."

My intention was to send an updated communication with more details in the near future.  Site Principals will be sending out school schedules with specifics for instructional expectations by the end of the week.  We are in negotiations with teachers regarding some of these final details.

Next week, Assistant Superintendent Stewart and I will hold open forums for district staff at the beginning of the week, and plan to hold a Town Hall meeting Wednesday, August 12th, at 5:30 pm.  Again, by then, you should have received school schedules and our Reopening of Schools document.  The Zoom meeting link for the Town Hall meeting will be posted on the SVUSD website homepage by Monday, August 10th:

As a reminder, all other Santa Cruz County Schools are starting their school year with students between August 12 - 17th.  I acknowledge that other districts have sent information out already, as their school year starts up to 12 days before ours.

Our first student day is August 24th.  The later start date has fortunately provided us additional time for planning and negotiations.

I know folks are frustrated, fearful, and/or just sick of this.  I apologize if it was not clear in the August 3rd letter that there would be additional information forthcoming.

We are working to communicate the information that you need as quickly as possible.  SVUSD students are, as always, our first priority, and we are looking forward to a successful start of school.  Thank you for your patience.
