Electives SVMS

SVMS Elective Program 2018.19

As a result of the major programmatic schedule change for the 18.19 school year, SVMS is able to offer a greater variety of electives to our students.  Students will be placed into one elective each trimester. Below you will find a brief description by grade level.

6th Grade:  Students are placed in any one of the following electives, in no particular order.  All students take one elective per trimester. Placement is based on student’s schedules and class availability, however not on student choice.

  • Audio Productions
  • Study Skills
  • Art
  • Directed Studies (select students only)
  • English Language Development (select students only)
  • WIN Math (select students only, Trimester 3)
  • Office Aide (select students only)

7th Grade:  All 7th graders must take Health 7 and Introduction to Spanish.  All 7th graders take one elective per trimester. Placement is based on student’s schedules and class availability, however, not on student choice.

  • Introduction to Spanish (required)
  • Art
  • Geography
  • Directed Studies (select students only)
  • English Language Development (select students only)
  • WIN Math (select students only, Trimester 2)
  • Office Aide (select students only)

8th Grade:  Students are placed in the following electives, one per trimester, with the exception of those students that chose to take Spanish I.  Spanish I is a year-long course.

  • Math Art
  • Art
  • Leadership
  • Directed Studies (select students only)
  • English Language Development (select students only)
  • WIN Math (select students only, Trimester 1)
  • Office Aide (select students only)

TRIMESTER TWO ONLY:  Drama is available for all grade levels.

SVMS will provide both a Drama Class and a Drama Production, Trimester 2

  1. All students may audition for the Production.  

  2. Any student interested in participating in either the Drama Class or the Production (or both) must audition (unless they are only interested in a Tech position).

  3. Students are not required to participate in the Drama Class to participate in the Production.

  4. Students will sign up for the Drama Class during auditions. Space in the class is limited. Drama Class is an elective class.  Students enrolled in 8th grade Spanish I are not eligible for participation in the Drama Class.

  5. The Production will be done in conjunction with Stephen Hilliard of 3Snaps Productions.

  6. Students involved in the after school Production will be asked to donate $175 (or $75 if in the Tech Crew).

Audition Dates: Monday, October 15, 2:40-5pm, Room E

Cast Meeting:   Wednesday, October 17, 12:30-2:00pm
